Rescued and Recovering: Olivia’s Journey from Creekside Distress to Hopeful Sanctuary Recovery

Introducing Olivia: On October 7, 2024, a distress call was received by the Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary regarding a dog found in a creek, appearing extremely frail and malnourished.

Given its proximity to the sanctuary, volunteers quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. They discovered a female dog that seemed to have recently given birth and was in urgent need of help, as she was on the brink of starvation.

The sight that greeted the volunteers was heart-wrenching—Olivia, as she came to be known, was so weak she couldn’t stand. Even after being rescued, she remained highly anxious.

Further examinations revealed that Olivia was suffering from heartworm and had both low platelet counts and low red blood cell levels.

In addition to her health issues, Olivia must undergo a 14-day quarantine period to ensure she is free from rabies. The sanctuary is hopeful for her speedy recovery.
