Elderly Dog Rescued, Overcomes Neglectful Past for Bright Future After Lifesaving Surgery

On September 22, a troubling situation came to the attention of GWARP, a dedicated animal rescue group, when they received a report about an elderly dog suffering severely in neglectful conditions.

Despite their extensive experience, the team was shocked by the dog’s plight. The dog, suspected of having bone cancer, had never received medical treatment.

For years, it endured life on a very short chain, surviving mainly on scraps and waste, which led to its diagnosis of osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer often resulting from severe injuries and infections.

This diagnosis aligned with witness accounts of the dog being brutally beaten by its intoxicated owner, who had kept it hidden and tethered in his yard, unable to move beyond a few feet due to the chain.

When GWARP attempted to rescue the dog, the owner initially refused to let them take what he referred to as “his property.” Faced with this resistance, the rescue group sought help from the local authorities.

A member of the team recounted the emotional moment: “The dog almost sobbed as we left to speak with the police.

After presenting the necessary paperwork to the owner a few hours later, he reluctantly consented, on the condition that we wouldn’t report him.”

Despite the legal hurdles, the dog, named Jordan, was in dire need of immediate medical attention. Urgent tests and a potential amputation were necessary, with samples required for histological examination.

Jordan’s X-rays confirmed the presence of osteosarcoma—a serious condition. The good news was that the cancer had not spread to his lungs, giving him a slight chance for survival.

However, the tumor was aggressively growing, starting to rupture the skin due to its size.

Jordan underwent a thorough bath, metaphorically washing away his painful past and the remnants of mistreatment.

However, his recovery was too complex to manage within Azerbaijan; he needed to stabilize slightly before traveling to Turkey for further treatment, scheduled to happen soon.

Once in Istanbul, Jordan was sedated for comprehensive X-rays in preparation for surgery. The procedure, which involved amputating the afflicted limb, was successfully completed, marking a significant step in his recovery.

Only three days post-surgery, Jordan adjusted swiftly to his new circumstances, showing a hearty appetite and enjoying his meals, a testament to his resilience.

Jordan’s journey to recovery is ongoing, and continuous support and well-wishes are encouraged as he embarks on this new chapter. The team and everyone involved extend their hopes for a swift recovery and a bright future for Jordan.
