Dogs are known for their incredible emotional intelligence, often forming deep bonds with humans and other animals. When they experience the loss of a friend, they can grieve just like people do.

This is particularly evident in the story of a dog named Tricycle, whose actions after the death of his companion highlight the depth of his devotion and emotional capabilities.

Tricycle, a three-legged golden retriever, resides at Horse Creek Stable Rescue Sanctuary in Mineral Bluff, Georgia.

This sanctuary is home to a variety of special-needs animals, including dogs, llamas, and alpacas, providing them with a haven to form close friendships.

Among these animals was Major, a St. Bernard/mastiff mix, who quickly became one of Tricycle’s closest friends.

Unfortunately, Major passed away in 2016, leaving Tricycle visibly heartbroken. Major was laid to rest on the sanctuary grounds, complete with a grave marker, as is the tradition for animals that pass away there.

Tricycle’s response to his friend’s passing was touching; he was frequently seen staying by Major’s gravesite, mourning for several days.

The sanctuary’s owner, Lester Aradi, noticed Tricycle’s distress and shared with People, “Like many of us, there’s a sense of loss that we all need to work through.

Animals, like humans, sense loss.” It became clear that Tricycle not only mourned Major but also other animals who died at the sanctuar

Recently, when Trixie, an alpaca, died, Tricycle was again found near her grave. This behavior illustrates the profound love and complex emotions that dogs like Tricycle possess, much like humans.

Tricycle’s story is a poignant reminder of the deep emotional connections animals can share and the capacity for grief that resides within them, showcasing the remarkable closeness and love animals can experience.
