From Dumpster Despair to Hope: How One Rescued Dog Shines Light on Greece’s Stray Crisis
A dog had been living in dire conditions, finding refuge in an unexpected place—a garbage dump. Sickly, starving, and isolated, he survived for months in this harsh environment, relying on discarded rubbish for warmth.
This dog’s plight highlights a significant but often overlooked issue. In Greece alone, approximately 50,000 dogs and 80,000 cats are abandoned each year, exacerbating an already large population of strays, which totals around 900,000.
While many of these stray animals linger near human populations in hopes of finding food, some, like this particular dog, withdraw to remote locations. Such isolation is often a result of fear or a loss of hope in receiving kindness from humans.
