The tumor was so enormous that it pressed against Henry’s right front leg, making walking incredibly difficult and leaving him struggling to search for food.
However, despite his hardships, Henry maintained an optimistic spirit. His constant wagging tail and cheerful demeanor would win over anyone he met, often showering them with affection.
With determination, Schomburg managed to secure enough funds, aided by grants, to have the tumor surgically removed. Fortunately, though the tumor was malignant, it had not spread.
The successful surgery was transformational for Henry; he dropped to 78 pounds and could move around freely. He was then placed with a caring foster family through the Newport Beach Animal Shelter, where he joyfully relished his newfound freedom.

Henry’s remarkable story attracted media attention, turning him into a local celebrity with fans worldwide. People sent him gifts and treats, touched by his inspiring journey of resilience and joy.
Sadly, Henry passed away peacefully in his sleep, but not before experiencing love and living life to the fullest. His ever-present smile and the wag of his tail were testament to his joyful spirit.
While his passing is a loss, Henry’s story has had a positive outcome. Authorities have since identified his previous owner, who is facing legal action from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
