Five-Legged, Two-Tailed Puppy Sparks Curiosity and Compassion at Costa Rica Shelter
A dog shelter in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, has been left puzzled after receiving a puppy with five legs and two tails.
This unique pup, now named Mia, was taken in by Casas Cuna Shelter after her original owners found themselves unable to provide the necessary care and treatment due to the puppy’s unusual condition.
The shelter has been regularly updating the public about Mia’s progress. In a recent post, they shared a video of Mia drinking water, mentioning that “we are busy deworming her tomorrow because she has lots of bugs.

Mia’s extra leg and tail are located near her spine, next to her stomach, contributing to her genetic disorder which also causes diarrhea and constipation.
To help Mia get the necessary surgery to ease her discomfort, the shelter is seeking financial support. Vets plan to conduct X-rays and an ultrasound to fully understand Mia’s condition and determine the best course of treatment.

“Your help is essential, it will be expensive, but the puppy is a priority,” emphasized the shelter.
Interestingly, Mia’s siblings were born without any abnormalities and have already been adopted by local families.

In a similar case of rare animal mutation, a farmer in Sultanpur, India, was amazed last November when one of his goats gave birth to a kid with an unusual cyclopean eye condition.
This goat was born with two large eyes fused together in its forehead, drawing crowds eager to witness the rare sight. Goat owner Umesh Maratha, experienced in raising goats, had never encountered such a mutation before.
