Community Unites to Rescue and Rehome Nana and Her Nine Puppies in Heartfelt Effort

When a man shared on Facebook that he was looking to give away his dog and her nine puppies, the local community in North Carolina swiftly rallied to ensure the little canine family received the care they desperately needed.

Nana, a four-year-old dog, had spent most of her life tethered outside her home. Unfortunately, her initial two litters did not survive.

However, her most recent litter of nine puppies thrived. Just after their birth, Nana’s owner decided to find new homes for all ten dogs.

As word spread through the neighborhood and on social media, concerned individuals took action to help.

Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary (FFAS), a local rescue group, learned about Nana’s situation and reached out to Mr. Bones & Co. Rescue for additional support.

“They sent us pictures showing where she lived and her poor condition,” shared Elli Frank, founder of Mr. Bones & Co., with The Dodo.

“The images were heartbreaking, as we believed Nana had moved her puppies to a ditch for shade from the harsh July heat.”

FFAS agreed to look after Nana and her puppies until the pups were ready to travel to New York, where Mr. Bones & Co. is based. During this period, rescuers from Mr. Bones & Co. visited Nana to build trust and ease the upcoming transition.

“Nana had previously birthed two litters and tragically lost all but one puppy,” Frank explained. “Despite the neglect she had faced, she remained fiercely protective. We wanted her to understand she was finally in a safe place with us and FFAS.”

In a heartwarming touch, each puppy was named after a character from Peter Pan, including Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Tiger Lily, Wendy, John, Michael, Cubby, Liza, and Jane.

As the puppies grew stronger and healthier, the rescue community worked together to arrange their transport.

In mid-September, with the help of Pilots N Paws, the family journeyed to New Jersey before being picked up by Mr. Bones & Co. and taken to New York. The long journey concluded with Nana and her puppies settling into safety and comfort.

Upon their arrival, each puppy was welcomed into a foster home. Nana was also taken to a caring foster environment, where she finally felt secure and loved, as she cuddled with her rescuers on the trip there.

“Through our visits, Nana learned to trust us,” stated Frank. “She entrusted her puppies to families who would care for them until they found permanent homes, knowing she had successfully given them the chance to thrive.”

Now thriving in their foster homes, Nana and her puppies are a testament to the power of community and love. Nana’s foster family is even considering adopting her permanently.

The puppies continue to grow and flourish, bringing joy to everyone involved in their rescue, who are delighted to see this once-uncertain family’s triumphant story.
