Bali, renowned for its enchanting landscapes, also grapples with the issue of stray dogs wandering through its towns and villages. The government faces the difficult task of managing these animals and preventing rabies outbreaks.

At the same time, local citizens and shelters are stepping up to offer better lives for these lost dogs.

The island’s deep-rooted Hindu culture, where a heroic figure like Yudhishthira is believed to have ascended to heaven with a dog, inspires a treasured tradition of caring for canines.

A heartwarming story from Denpasar, Bali, highlights this compassionate approach. Rico Soegiarto, a 26-year-old resident, stumbled upon a husky in a dire state during his commute.

The dog was severely undernourished, with patches of fur missing and its bones visible through fragile skin. Despite its poor condition, Rico was moved by the husky’s bright blue eyes.

“I don’t know what was so special about her,” Rico shared with Bored Panda, adding, “It’s about heart and feeling.”

Rico immediately took it upon himself to nurse the ailing puppy back to health. With the help of veterinarians, a nutritious diet, and regular care, the husky experienced a remarkable transformation.

Now featuring a lush, gleaming coat and those same striking blue eyes, the once-abandoned dog is thriving, showing her affection for her savior.

“She loves to be petted and eats a lot of cookies!” Rico remarked, acknowledging the friendly dog’s sociable nature amidst concerns about local theft. Fortunately, Hope is now safe under Rico’s watchful eye, living with his family and four other dogs.
