While driving down a quiet road one day, we encountered a heart-wrenching scene: a mother dog and her puppy aimlessly roaming near a drainage pipe.

Both animals were shockingly thin, reduced to mere skin and bones, with the puppy so weak that it struggled to walk. The mother, weary and clearly starving, seemed to be pleading for help with her cries.

Sadly, passersby did not stop to offer assistance.

We couldn’t ignore their desperate situation, so we approached them and offered a loaf of bread. The hungry puppy eagerly ate half of it, driven by the need for nourishment.

Meanwhile, the mother’s condition was so dire that she could barely manage a bite, clearly having been deprived of food for an extended period.

Witnessing their suffering was overwhelming, and although we could not determine how long they had been neglected, it was evident they were in urgent need of help.

After sharing what little food we had, we searched the vicinity for any other puppies but, heartbreakingly, found none. It was a stark reminder of what might have befallen any other offspring—left alone and starved.

This sobering reality brought tears to our eyes, motivating us to act swiftly.

The mother’s sorrow intensified our resolve; her cries echoed in the stillness of the night as we worked to comfort her and assure her that she and her puppy were no longer alone.

The night was particularly trying. The mother cried in her temporary cage, yet to comprehend the safety we were trying to offer. In contrast, the little puppy appeared to sense that their situation was changing for the better.

By morning, we were able to provide them with milk, which helped stabilize them, easing the immediate threats of hunger and thirst.

However, the path to recovery was still long. We named the mother dog Jackfruit, and both she and her puppy were suffering from severe malnutrition, dehydration, and infections.

We took them to a veterinarian that evening for a detailed check-up. Blood tests revealed alarming issues: Jackfruit had very low blood platelets, signs of leukemia, and other infections.

Her puppy was similarly afflicted, with a dangerously low blood count and comparable symptoms. Both were infested with fleas and had severe blood clots, underscoring the critical nature of their condition.

Despite the grim prognosis, we were determined to help them recover. Their delicate bodies required thoughtful care, starting with a diet of easily digestible food to avoid overwhelming their fragile systems

Gradually, we saw small signs of improvement as they responded to the care.

Today, Jackfruit and her puppy are on the mend, receiving hormone treatments and showing affection by cuddling and grooming each other regularly.

It is heartwarming to witness their bond and recovery. This journey reinforces our commitment to helping those in need, striving to alleviate their suffering and support all lives towards a better future.

Thankfully, their blood tests have improved, and Jackfruit is now benefiting from ongoing nourishment and supplements prescribed by the vet. Her newfound contentment is a testament to the power of compassion and care.
