From Roadside Rescue to Sweatered Sweetheart: A Dog’s Journey to a Loving Forever Home
Less than two months ago, a dog’s life took a miraculous turn thanks to the compassion of a quick-thinking Uber driver and the dedication of a Kentucky veterinarian.
The pup, now happily sporting matching sweaters with his new adoptive mom, was once teetering on the edge of death.
The ordeal began when a severely undernourished dog arrived at a veterinary clinic in Kentucky. In dire condition, staff at the clinic immediately found an appropriate name for him.
Receptionist Emily Bewley, DVM, recalls someone suggesting, “Can we name him Travolta? Because this guy is staying alive.” The name stuck, and so did the bond between Travolta and Bewley, who played a significant role in his recovery.

On a recent Valentine’s Day, Bewley decided to make Travolta a permanent part of her family. Now he enjoys life to the fullest, surrounded by his newfound human and animal siblings.
He also shares a unique wardrobe style with his mom, complete with matching outfits
The story of Travolta’s survival is remarkable. An observant Uber driver discovered the emaciated puppy on the roadside and took him to the Jefferson Animal Hospital in Louisville.
With no owner in sight, Bewley, a veterinarian at the Kentucky Humane Society who also works Saturdays at the hospital, took responsibility for the dog.
Travolta’s condition was poor—his body infested with maggots, fur matted with waste, and several infections, including a severe one near his scrotum, threatened his life.

Despite needing no major surgeries, Travolta required extensive care. He was severely underweight at just 14 pounds but should have weighed around 30.
With deteriorated muscles, he could barely stand or lift his head. Bewley estimates he was only two days from death.
While the exact circumstances of how Travolta ended up on the road remain unknown, Bewley and her team sprang into action. They cleaned him, administered antibiotics, and put him on an IV drip.
Treatments also included medications for anemia and liver issues, and he was gradually reintroduced to food and water to rebuild his nutrition intake.

Travolta’s journey to recovery saw him go home with Bewley that first evening. As he regained weight and strength, numerous people came forward offering to foster him.
Yet, Bewley felt a special connection with Travolta and kept coming up with reasons to keep him. Observing how well he meshed with her other pets and her three children, she decided to adopt him.
Travolta, now a lively and playful companion who relishes treats and cuddles, has truly found his forever home. He even gets to sport a collection of custom sweaters, including a tie-dye one that matches his mom’s.

Travolta’s journey from a roadside rescue to a beloved family member highlights the powerful impact of small acts of kindness. As Bewley puts it, stepping in to help can lead to extraordinary outcomes, whether through fostering, volunteering, or simply lending a hand when needed.
