A Stray Dog with Severe Facial Disfigurement Finds New Hope and Happiness
Phoenix, a stray dog discovered wandering the streets of Collinsville, Oklahoma, has been given a second chance at life thanks to a compassionate animal rescue team.
The folks at Skiatook Paws & Claws Animal Rescue took him under their wing, suspecting that the pup had been abandoned.

Initially, veterinarians were unsure whether Phoenix’s facial disfigurement resulted from abuse or illness.
After conducting several medical tests, they identified the dog’s condition as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease where the body mistakenly attacks itself, making treatment a delicate process.
Fortunately, with expert care, Phoenix’s health has greatly improved. He’s now on track to join a loving family soon. A recent update from the rescue center highlighted the dedication and care Phoenix has received.

It detailed the investigative journey his medical team embarked upon to uncover the cause of his skin condition.
“In an effort to understand Phoenix’s skin condition, veterinarians in Owasso took skin biopsies and consulted with Dr. Trainor, a skilled veterinary pathologist specializing in skin diseases,” the update shared.
Praised for his expertise, Dr. Trainor examined the biopsies to better understand Phoenix’s condition at a microscopic level.

Phoenix’s journey also led him to a Veterinary Allergy and Dermatology clinic in Overland Park, Kansas, where he met Dr. David Senter, a dermatologist who specializes in skin conditions.
With their combined efforts, Phoenix is making remarkable strides in his recovery.
As he continues to heal, Phoenix has gained weight and his skin is mending. Beyond that, he’s enjoying playtimes, from tug-of-war to chasing balls, and even has his own dog couch to relax on.

Despite his unique appearance, his joyful spirit shines through, with his constant “cheesy, sharky grin” and a strong will to overcome challenges.
Due to his condition, protecting him from UV light is essential, so clothes and sunblock are part of his daily regimen.

Currently, Phoenix continues his medical treatments, and the rescue center keeps his supporters updated with regular photos and posts on social media.
As he progresses, Phoenix eagerly awaits the day when he can settle into a forever home and experience even more happiness.
