In a tragic incident in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, a courageous Dalmatian named Tyson lost its life after heroically defending its family from a deadly encounter with a cobra.

Ameen Sharif, the owner, was awakened by Tyson’s frantic barking in the early hours, only to find the dog in a fierce battle with the venomous Indian cobra in their yard.

Despite Tyson’s brave efforts to protect his family by killing the snake, Ameen and his family were left helpless as they could only witness the aftermath.

The distressing scene unfolded as Tyson began to show signs of distress, prompting Ameen to look for injuries. Upon inspection, he found blood on the left side of the dog’s face, confirming a snake bite.

Seeking help, Ameen reached out to a snake hotline and sent a video of the incident to Subhendu Mallik, a snake expert. Mallik identified the snake as a highly venomous Indian cobra and advised immediate veterinary attention.

However, given the timing of the incident at 2 a.m., finding an available vet proved impossible, and Tyson succumbed to the venom within half an hour.

Ameen shared his heartbreak with Ommcom News, recounting how they discovered Tyson battling the snake just outside their porch.

Despite their efforts to reach veterinary services for life-saving anti-venom treatment, help was out of reach at that late hour. “We managed to safeguard our own lives, but could not save his,” Ameen lamented.

In a poignant message, Ameen expressed enduring gratitude for Tyson’s loyalty and sacrifice. “Our family will never forget Tyson’s dedication.

It’s unfortunate that 24-hour emergency services are abundant for humans, yet similar immediate care for animals is lacking.”

Subhendu Mallik also commented on the situation, highlighting the critical gap in veterinary services in Odisha that became apparent through this unfortunate event.

“The brave dog prevented a potential disaster for the family, but the incident underscores the vital need for better emergency care for animals.”
