A little dog named Haddie has found solace and happiness after suffering severe injuries from being used as a bait dog in illegal dog fights.

Her journey to recovery and joy began when Eric Williams, from Washington, DC, was drawn to her unique appearance and decided to adopt her.

Haddie’s story is one of resilience. After enduring brutal attacks that left her with significant injuries, including the loss of part of her face and one eye, she was rescued by a kind stranger and taken to Mutt Scouts in California.

There, she began her path to healing, both physically and emotionally.

Eric discovered Haddie on Petfinder.com in August 2020, and he was immediately captivated. Despite not knowing much about Haddie’s past, it was clear she had suffered immensely in the hands of those who used her to train fighting dogs.

After adopting Haddie, Eric speculated on her birth date, choosing January 19, the birthday of singer Dolly Parton, as a tribute. Initially, Haddie was scared of other dogs, trembling at the sound of barking or the sight of another dog.

To help her conquer these fears, Eric worked with a dog trainer who used a gentle approach to slowly reintroduce Haddie to the company of other dogs through positive reinforcement.

Now, Haddie is a regular at the neighborhood park, enjoying the company of other dogs and socializing happily.

Though she requires protective sunscreen on her sensitive skin and scars before venturing outdoors, her different appearance only adds to her charm.

Strangers often pause to take in her unique look, but Eric notes most reactions are filled with warmth and kindness.

Haddie’s lively spirit has not only captivated those she meets but also helped Eric manage his own struggles with depression. Her insistence on frequent walks and her comforting presence have brought joy to his life.
