From Desperation to Devotion: Rescued Dog Marco Finds Forever Home and New Family
The world outside can often be harsh, posing challenges of survival. This is especially true for dogs, who have transformed from wild wolves into our loyal companions over centuries of domestication.
Due to this dependency, some dogs struggle to survive on their own and end up in distressing situations on the streets.
This was the situation with a dog found abandoned and tied to a fence in a neighborhood in St. Louis. The Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) received a report on March 24, 2019, about this dog in dire condition.

Volunteers rushed to the scene, and what they found was heartbreaking.
Despite his painful wounds and swollen face, the dog, later named Marco, showed relief at being rescued.

Marco’s journey to recovery was just beginning. Initially, his health was precarious, with a body temperature of 94 degrees Fahrenheit, below the normal range of 100-102 degrees for a healthy adult dog.
The SRSL team worked diligently, administering fluids, antibiotics, and other medications to stabilize him.
In the following days, Marco began to show signs of improvement. His wounds were cleaned, and drains were inserted to help clear the infections on his head and legs.

The SRSL posted updates, reflecting their hope and support for Marco’s healing process.
By March 30, Marco’s progress was evident, with bright eyes and an uplifted spirit. Though he required surgery to partially repair his leg, Marco was steadily moving towards a full recovery and a new start in life.
On May 1, came the joyous news—Marco was ready to move to a medical foster home.

A loving foster family was arranged for Marco, bringing him closer to a new life filled with love and care. His foster family quickly fell in love with him, embracing him as one of their own.
Marco found comfort in his new home, snug with his blanket, and bonded well with his new canine siblings, also rescues.
Marco’s new family included a human sister, Brianna, with whom he formed a particularly strong connection.

Although the arrangement was initially supposed to be temporary, the family, inspired by Brianna, decided to make Marco a permanent member of their household.
“He remains the cutest little guy with the tilted head,” shared Katie, Marco’s new mom, expressing their joy on the SRSL Facebook page.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of his rescuers and the love of his new family, Marco has found his forever home and a life filled with happiness.
