Abandoned Dog Triumphs Over 15-Pound Tumor to Find Forever Home and Joyful Life
Unfortunately, it’s all too common for pet owners to give up their dogs for various reasons, whether it’s due to family allergies, financial struggles, or housing restrictions. However, sometimes it’s simply a lack of empathy.
One such case involved a dog named Hattie, whose fate caught the attention of a Dallas-based rescue group.
In 2018, Hattie’s owners left her at a local shelter, despite her having a substantial tumor on her left side that had been growing for approximately two years without any treatment.

The team at Dallas DogRRR – Rescue.Rehab.Reform couldn’t ignore her situation and took her in, determined to give Hattie a chance at a brighter future.
Recognizing the urgent need to remove the tumor, the rescue brought Hattie to Vet Ranch, an organization committed to caring for abandoned animals. The tumor’s weight had affected Hattie’s legs, making it difficult for her to move.
Incredibly, the veterinary team successfully excised the massive 15-pound tumor – an astonishing weight for any dog to carry, as it was nearly half of Hattie’s entire body weight.
Hattie faced adjustments post-surgery, but her resilient and cheerful spirit saw her through. By December of that year, Hattie had been placed in a foster home and soon after found her forever home.
Free from the burden of her “bean bag” tumor, Hattie now moves with ease and enjoys life despite some ongoing medical issues. Her adoptive owner shared on Facebook that Hattie is thriving in a loving environment.
She now has access to a spacious yard, a big furry sibling, and snuggles on a king-size bed each night. Regular veterinary visits help manage her health, ensuring she remains happy and cared for.
